Holy Church Agios Georgios (St George) - kavouri

sights

The Church of St. George the Great Martyr, the Trophy-bearing military Saint, was built in a pine-covered communal area of the Community of Vouliagmeni in 1950, to serve the worship needs of the Commando Forces Unit, which then camped in Kavouri.
In 1965, the Administration of the 128 S.E.T.I. of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff handed over the Church, a chapel, to the Community of Vouliagmeni, while the approximately 150 families who then lived "in Loutropolis", submitted an application to the Holy Archdiocese of Athens on the subject of the establishment of a Parish.
In September 1966, the Metropolitan Council approved the request and decided "the establishment of a parish of Agios Georgios Vouliagmenis in Attica". In the year 1974 in the original chapel, "a work of exceptional elegance and remarkable aesthetic appearance", an extension to the east was made based on a study by the architect Per. Sakellariou, keeping intact the picturesque form of the façade and the Bell Tower.
After the completion of the works, its hagiography was undertaken in 1977 and was painted from time to time by Ger. Manetta, Nick. Mylonas and Pan. Christopoulos.
With the continuous embellishment of the surrounding area, the orderliness, the quietness and the cleanliness that distinguish this sacred place, the Parish Church of St. George of the Municipality of Vouliagmeni attracts to the holy services and the Divine Worship, not only the parishioners, but also many believers from the wider region of Attica.
